take a few days thinking about dedicating a post to Cliff Gallup, a bizarre case in the crazy world of Rock'n'Roll. His respectable effort to bring you a quiet life away from touring and only recorded two LPs with Gene Vincent. However, in the 35 subjects who left for posterity with Gene, his great technique and sound were to delight the public and influence many guitarists *. Right at the end of a long list of big names, is a humble servant who still puts goosebumps listening to his memorable solos, Insurmountable-that-actually executed using a Gretsch Duo Jet, Standel amplifier and echo unit that he had made, so the legend goes. This kind of R'N'R Rimbaud returned to the recording studio only once more to record a delightful instrumental album, this occurred in the mid-sixties. He worked for years as director of maintenance and transport for schools and played on weekends, said he played until his death.
On my second visit to the dentist in less than three weeks, as he opened his mouth and closed his eyes, the unmistakable sound of Cliff viejunas I go by my ears. Also sounded by Sam Cooke, The Beatles or Elvis. When I left there I told the receptionist: "Too bad I spent some time but the music has been excellent." Thanks Cliff.
